The Missionary Gesture went to 600 institutions

Just a few days before the official start of the event, WYD Cascais volunteers joined the national Missionary Gesture movement, visiting institutions that welcome individuals in more vulnerable situations.

In Cascais, at ARIA – Associação de Reabilitação e Integração Ajuda -, in Alcabideche, the characteristic yellow of the WYD volunteers' t-shirts filled the room, not only with color, but with joy and faith. The volunteers, mostly Spanish, put a smile on everyone's face.

For Carlos Carreiras, Mayor of Cascais, the Missionary Gesture is good for those who are in ARIA, but also for the volunteers who make it possible. “It's about bringing a little joy and sharing the word with these citizens, giving them the spirit of the  World Youth Day”, he said.

In addition to spreading the word about the Day, the volunteers' main objective is to take everyone with them during the meeting. For this reason, they distributed wristbands to those present, inviting them to sign their name on them so that, from that moment on, the volunteers would symbolically take the participants with them.

As part of the Missionary Gesture, volunteers visited around 600 institutions, representing more than 48,000 people, with the main objective and mission of making World Youth Day a meeting point for everyone.
